“The first project started by your support!”
Hello, everyone. It is Sotto OuenSurukai Malawi - MINPA-. After we announced Malawi fund in July last year, the first funds arrived from Japan and finally the project was launched in November last year in Malawi.
As we told you before, we have four projects to be implemented by this fund. Depending on the funds and timing we chose the 4th one, Primary school empowerment for the first action. Your support bloomed the children’s big smiles. And they told us “This could be an early Christmas presents from Japan!” Here is our report of the donation.

As we explained about this project before, in Malawi primary schools are facing a lot of problems. Some of them include, lack of stationery, textbook, table, chairs or desks, classroom, teacher and so on. Despite these challenges students are keen to study hard. Our place, Rumphi district, is not an exception. For example, when we visited some primary schools here, we saw situations like a school having only 1 box of crayon for 1000 students, and the students studying while sitting on the floor or outside due to lack of tables and chairs and also classrooms.
1. Plain paper (500 sheets) 12 boxes
2. Pencil 300
3. Crayon(8 colors) 120 boxes
4. Crayon(12 colors) 120 boxes
5. Eraser 150
6. Sharpener 150
After we decided about the contents of stationery, we went to a city to look for the best stationery shops which have reasonable and good-quality stationery because we did not want to give the students cheap ones. We got a quotation and bought it the next day. Then, we packed them into 3 boxes.
On the day of the donation, we visited RU2 primary school at first. The head master as usual, welcomed us here. We talked with the students and teacher from art club and took a group photo.
We explained about this organization as being found with a purpose of supporting the affected area by Tohoku great earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, where, still, there are reconstruction under way, and that some donors are from these areas as well. We wore the charity T-shirt. Please check the web site→ http://kirikiriouen.jimdo.com/charity-t-shirt-project/ We also pleaded with them to please think of the thought from Japan while they are using the stationery as this is like a relationship between Malawi and Japan.
Next, we visited St.Denis primary school. The head master and art teacher were so helpful that they gathered students and teachers for us. Their big smiles made us smile too. Please check the photos.
At last, we visited Bumba primary school. The headmistress welcomed us. We provided the donation in their hall with full of students. I was impressed by their serious eyes when they listened to Mr.Mhone’s story.
This is the message from the head master at St.Denis primary school.
“The teaching and learning resources in Malawian government schools are inadequate so that every public primary school has difficulties when it comes to studying materials and facilities for a long time. Apart from that, many students cannot afford stationery because of their household background. Despite that we, teachers, are there for these students, we cannot solve these problems by ourselves and always feel sorry for the students about the poor educational environment. This donation makes it better for the students and teachers. We deeply appreciate it.”
This first project couldn’t start without your support. We again would like to thank you for your cooperation and contributions towards the same. However, each school has more than 1000 students and this donation was not enough for in terms of one stationary to one student ratio like the situation in Japan. We are sure that the help will just reduce the problem that has been there. Still more we believe and we are sure that your support can change the situation. Your support can create the better life for children to get sufficient education in Malawi. We truly appreciate for your support for the children in Malawi.
Introduction of a donor from Japan
Name: Mr.Tamai (From Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan)
Message:
“Today, we delivered a lot of stationary for 3 primary schools with your donation. Your support officially has reached Malawi.”
This message came from Ms.Kamiyanagi with the photo which shows she and lots of school children are having stationery with gushing smiles.
At first when I decided to donate to Malawi fund, I just thought “I would like to support Malawi even a little in any way.” But soon after I received the message and photo, it made me feel very warm because I have never imagined my little support will return to me in such an amazing way.
Maybe there is only a few things I can do for Malawi from Japan, but the few things can create the pleasure of everyday life in Malawi. I am just happy about the fact and admire the staffs involved in the activity. Also, that makes me eager to doing my best for a better life in Japan.
I will keep supporting Sotto OuenSurukai Malawi from Japan and hope they can continue this heartwarming activities. I will be looking forward to hearing more news about Malawi!
